Position Description:

The Lead Interior Designer must be able to imagine and implement new possibilities in architectural design, must be passionate about their career in interior design, excels in collaborating within a team, is self-motivated, takes ownership of tasks and responsibilities, and yet is committed to asking questions when necessary. The Lead Interior Designer leads the interior design effort on larger or multiple projects and is engaged in mentoring and business development.



  • Be a champion for Taylor Design’s core values by demonstrating humility, a curious mind and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Oversees the efficient production of construction documents, specifically those related to interior design deliverables, on larger or multiple projects
  • Involvement in all phases of design including programming, concept design, schematic design, design development and construction documents and construction administration
  • Responsible for the selection, presentation, coordination, budgeting and specification of interior finishes and furnishings
  • Involvement in and/or responsibility for budgeting, proposing, contracting and delivering interior design scopes of work
  • Actively participates in researching, selecting, designing, and resolving construction materials, assemblies and details
  • Actively participates in quality control and ensures conformance with firm wide standards for all documentation
  • Works with the Project Manager to ensure that work is completed as planned, budgeted, and scheduled 
  • Communicates with vendors, consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to resolve project details and technical issues relative to interior architecture
  • Takes a leadership role in continued education and staff professional development, providing personal mentoring to staff plus participation in architectural events, conferences and seminars
  • Interfaces with clients regularly, plays a lead role in business development efforts



  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate or institutional interior design, with a focus in healthcare, science and technology, and/or education preferred
  • NCIDQ accreditation or licensed architect
  • Experience developing overall design concepts for larger projects and formulating design presentation strategies
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, graphic and problem solving skills
  • Strong graphic presentation skills
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships within the firm and with other key constituents
  • Ability to clearly communicate though verbal, written and other presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer/supplier appropriateness
  • Experience in specifying, coordinating, and detailing interiors projects, including finishes and furnishings through the design and construction phases
  • Demonstrated accuracy of technical documents and an understanding of applicable building codes



  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Revit/BIM required
  • High level of proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite required
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, Deltek Vision, and NewForma a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and enjoys working closely with designers, architects and project managers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • A history of integrating sustainability into architectural projects, and an awareness of the importance of sustainability as a design principle
